The Claim

Donald Trump has alleged that the movement by The House of Representatives to impeach is illegal and unconstitutional. Some media outlets are reporting on the news as "Trump dramatically upping the political ante" and claiming that Democrats may need to work quickly to contest Trump's claims.

Constitutional or Unconstitutional?

Well the truth of the matter here is that Trump is wrong when it comes to the Constitution and the legality of the charges of impeachment. The facts are that there is almost nothing more Constitutional than an impeachment case brought by House of Representatives. The constitution lays out the impeachment process in great detail and explains that it is indeed the duty of the House to begin the impeachment process. In addition, it is at the sole discretion of the House to decide when to bring about criminal or other impeachable charges against the President.

The Facts As Written In The Constitution

Article I, Section 2.5: The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment."
